During the sketch phase, we experimented with various scenes of summer readers. One challenge was ensuring that each element could stand alone if the team wanted to use it elsewhere. Initially, the sketches didn't achieve this, either due to a lack of characters or standalone elements.
The idea I pitched featured characters reading under a large umbrella in the sun. However, the team desired a layout with more flexibility for typography and a way to highlight the characters more. With some final adjustments, we settled on a close-up of summer readers enjoying their books in the sun.
